Help Kick Cancer's Butt in 2010...

This July, I will once again be participating in 24 Hours of Booty, a fundraising event for national and local cancer initiatives. The 24 Hours of Booty is The Official 24 Hour Cycling Event of the Lance Armstrong Foundation.  So many of you helped me raise thousands of dollars as I pedaled 200 miles in each of the last two years.  I can't wait to do it again!

In the summer of '07, cancer hit home for my family. My Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Soon after, my Mom was diagnosed with a more advanced case of ovarian cancer. My immediate focus was our faith, working to remain positive and expecting the best. My Dad’s case was tackled with surgery and he’s recovered well. My Mom’s case meant extensive surgery and chemotherapy. My Mom sent me one of her bracelets from a chemo treatment and I carried it in my jersey during one of my century mountain rides.  I can’t explain how much strength it gave me to pedal harder and tear up every climb. I knew, no matter how exhausted I felt, it was nothing near what Mom was experiencing.  Anyone with a family member who’s had to endure chemotherapy and all that comes with it has a new hero in their life.  I’m glad to report my parents are doing well now.

Last summer, I got word from Ian, a good friend and avid cyclist that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.  After tough and exhausting treatments, I'm happy to tell you that he too is doing well.

I’m pedaling 24 HOB with a good friend, Brian, who lost his brother, Aaron, to brain cancer.  I’m riding for my Mom and Dad, Aaron, my friend Ian and the hundreds of thousands who have faced or will face the fight against cancer.  It’s pedaling with a great purpose.  We must continue this fight by pedaling, pushing for more fundraising, praying or whatever means we can.
Join me in my extraordinary journey!
