Carpe Diem II (Sieze the Day, Ride Bikes, Fight Cancer)

It is that time again and I hope that I can continue to count on each of you to help!

I am again participating in the 24 Hours of Booty Fundraising ride in Charlotte, NC the last weekend of July.

Cancer has touched my life and the lives of many of my friends. This year, as always, I ride in memory of my Mom. I will also be riding for several friends who are currently battling this horrible disease.

2010 will be my 5th time riding in the 24 Hours of Booty.

Thanks for visiting this online donation page for 24 Hours of Booty.

200 miles

This year, my goal is to ride 200 miles.  This will be an interesting challenge since I am rehabing from ACL reconstruction...but no excuses.  When your riding the Booty Loop and come across an "I'm a Survivor" bib it really makes me think...."no excuses."  I am also shooting to raise $4,000 or more this year.  That is $20 per mile.  With your generous support we will reach this goal.  50% of the money raised from this event stays local right here in the Greater Charlotte area.

Thanks again for visiting my site and for donating to my ride!!!

It's only 24 Hours....

Collier Lilly Ride this Saturday
Going to be testing the knee this weekend...doing the Collier Lilly Ride for Life. The goal is the 50K (31 mile) ride. Will be riding with my good friends from work, Stephanie and Carlos.
Really getting excited about another 24 hours on the Booty Loop. Lining up one more "big" fundraiser with the Lowe's YMCA....stay tuned.

Riding again....
Last week was good in that I was able to get out and ride twice! I rode on Wednesday night in the Ride of Silence around the Booty Loop. It was quite impressive. I am not sure which is more awe inspiring...1200 riders on the opening lap of the 24 Hours of Booty with the crowds cheering or 70+ riders silently pedaling around that same loop!
I rode a total of 25 miles last week...my goal this week...50!

First road ride...
Well, I finally got over the fear of reinjuring this ACL and got on my bike on the road with my good friend and team captain, Stephanie Brown. I only managed 8 miles before the hamstring started to get tight but it is early. I have until the end of July to build up to 200 miles...and I will get there.
Working on the Organizing committee is a real treat this year. Even though I missed the last meeting due to business travel I am excited about the event. I'm not real sure how I'm going to get in 200 miles and work at the event but we'll get there.
Wildcats Strike Out Cancer night was a huge success. Donations are en route and should put me up near the $2k mark. Still have another 2K to go!!

Released to ride!!!
Finally, both my doctor and my physical therapist have released me to get out on the road on my bike!!! YES!!!!
It's been over 6 months since I last rode, not counting some time on a stationary bike for physical therapy, and I can't wait. If the weather holds up tomorrow like it was today I will definitely be hitting the business park to test out this surgically repaired left knee.
I am still shooting for 200 miles but I am also looking forward to being on the Organizing Committee and helping with the event....I hope these two goals are not counterintuitive?

24 HoB Organizing Committee
I am honored to be working with the Organizing Committee this year. We had our first meeting tonight and our mission is to continue to have an awesome event that the entire community can be proud of and that makes the cycling community key driving this mission.
We met in the Carolinas Cancer Wellness Center powered by 24 Hours of Booty tonight. It was humbling to know that I have had a small part in helping make this happen.
My ACL rehab continues to go well and I am back up to around 15-18 minutes at a time on the bike. Little by little I will build back up to riding.
Stay tuned for more. You can also follow me on Twitter @terryh0145

Let's get started
After off-season ACL reconstruction I am gearing up for another 24 Hours of Booty. My physical therapist still want let me get on my bike but he is finally letting me push myself on a stationary bike at the rehab clinic.
My goal this year is $4k and 200 miles. I am currently working on several new fundraising ideas and will post them as I work them through. We will be having our 2nd annual Wildcats Strike Out Cancer night at a Lake Norman High School Baseball game later this spring. Working on the jerseys to auction from the players and coaches now. Stay tuned for more.
